I had the pleasure of chatting to Eilin from Firmount House about micro weddings during a pandemic. Firmount House is a family run wedding venue who are holding weddings on a smaller scale. They work on a house hire basis so a party can be as small as 4 or as large as 120! The venue offers micro ceremonies from 4 people to 27, depending on what is allowed. The celebration could be followed by an indulgent afternoon tea or a dining experience.

Tell us about your venue?
Firmount House is a unique and amazing venue with a history second to none. Lovingly restored from derelict by us, the house is known for flexibility and creativity and is open for weddings, private parties, film shoots, yoga retreats, and corporate events. It is a house filled with treasures from our travels and restored by hand by us – each room is unique and bespoke and we love having people to stay who appreciate that as much as we do.
Where is the venue located?
just outside Clane in County Kildare, only 40minutes from Dublin city centre
What’s the capacity for weddings?
110-120
Can you hold ceremonies?
Yes, we are HSE approved and can hold independent ceremonies or ceremonies as part of a day or weekend house hire.
Do you offer catering services?
As we are a house hire, we provide you with an extensive list of suppliers including catering services. The caterers we suggest are all flexible and willing to work with small or large parties. Arranging a wedding here is easy. You book the house and then contact one of the catering suppliers who is already familiar with the house. Their quotes include staffing, linens and everything needed for the day. It also allows you so much more flexibility.
How long has your venue been open?
Our first wedding was in July 2019 but Firmount has been hosting retreats, workshops and film shoots before then.
What should couples know before choosing their wedding venue?
That we are most suited to creative, relaxed couples looking for a fantastic and unique space to celebrate with their loved ones. We have more of a fabulous house party vibe so don’t expect us to tie you down to timings, drinks, or menus. It’s your stay, your way.
Tell me something about your venue which I can’t find in your brochure?
There is so much about Firmount that’s not in the brochure. We have part of a 13th-century castle in the basement! Or there was a waterfall down the staircase and dry rot in the floors when we bought it in late 2012! Or that we genuinely feel honored to host an event in our house and we believe the house was supposed to be filled with fun and lovely people. Or we only take bookings around a year in advance so we generally have availability. Or back in 2019, we worked 24 hours a day for 3 days before our first accommodation wedding to get the house renovated on time! We were still cleaning door frames when Caoimhe and Patrick arrived!
Does the venue support a certain wedding theme?
We support all themes, all creeds, all races, and all preferences. We want the bride and groom to have the day they wish, not the day we wish!
Do you offer accommodation?
Yes. We sleep 14 +2 in seven large, luxurious, uniquely designed bedrooms.
What’s the best season to get married at your venue?
All times of the year!
What’s the most memorable wedding you have hosted?
Our very first wedding where a gorgeous couple from NY booked Firmount via zoom and so had never seen the house before they arrived for their wedding. It’s that type of faith and genuine love for the house, that we adore!
Who is the best person to talk to arrange a site inspection?
Henry deals with all our bookings so contact him via info@firmounthouse.com. He will also arrange tours via zoom or in person and Eilin, the owner will take the tour itself.
