This month’s vendor spotlight is with Mags from Mizz Rio. Mags is a Boho bridal wear designer based in Dublin, Ireland. Her collection aims at free-spirited and non-traditional brides who want to express their unique style on their wedding day.
Mags also offers a bespoke wedding dress service and works with brides on a one-to-one basis to design their dream wedding dress. Her passion is to create unique bridal fashion for every body size, style, and budget.
I had the pleasure of collaborating with Mags on one of our styled shoots recently. Read about her inspiring story and business below…
Tell us about Mizz Rio?
Oh where to start! I provide bespoke alternative bridal for the boho and the brave! I work with each bride to design their dream dress within their budget. I love to push the boundary and throw the wedding dress rule book out the window! I cater for all styles and sizes and every thing is possible!
What led you to boho bridal fashion at Mizz Rio?
I started the business on maternity leave in 2015 – originally catering for bridesmaids. However with planning my own wedding I couldn’t find anything that I liked and as such began to explore offering bridal. It grew legs very quickly and has developed into what it is today.
What keeps you passionate about weddings?
I absolutely adore my job. I’ve heard this from people in the past and have always thought.. come on you don’t love it that much! But I understand it now and I cannot tell you how much helping brides actually means to me. I love what I do – I love helping, I love designing something so unique with each bride and I love saying YES to each brides dress dreams. I really feel like I’m just getting started and every day is just an exciting day for me right now. What keeps me passionate are the brides I speak to on a daily basis and finding out what their struggles or pain points are and providing a solution for it!
How long have you been in business with Mizz Rio?
This is my 6th year and so far busiest year in business and as I said I feel I’m just getting started!
Where do you find inspiration?
Absolutely everywhere – pictures, films, social media – every where I look I see a little detail that I think would be amazing as part of a dress and it all gets filed away in my brain for later use.
What should brides know before buying their wedding dress?
Do your research and see what’s out there. You don’t have to opt for a traditional white wedding dress if it’s not your style. They are other options that give you the freedom to create your authentic bridal dress vision. If you stay true to your own style and vibe you will shine at your wedding.
What sets Mizz Rio apart in your field?
I can cater to each bride’s dress dream. I can tweak and change a design to suit their specific needs and wants. Brides deal with me from start to finish on each project so it’s a very personal experience for myself and the bride. I also offer a lot of colour and different textures and patterns that are not too commonly seen or associated with bridal.
What common mistakes do you see couples making?
I wouldn’t call it a mistake as such but the biggest thing I see couples doing is pandering to other people’s wants and expectations. At the end of the day, it’s the couple’s wedding and it’s only their opinion that matters. Often I see couples under financial stress and strain doing what other people expect and what they feel they ‘should’ do rather than what they actually want to do.
What’s your best advice for couples planning a wedding?
Examine your own styles and pare everything back to the absolute minimum and see does it represent your style. For every aspect of planning ask yourself is this what we want or are we doing this because this is just what you do? Its easy to get carried away with all the shoulds of a wedding so pare it all back and see what it is that you actually want.

What’s the most memorable wedding dress you have ever worked on?
Oh, that’s so hard! I get involved with every bride for every detail so they are all memorable on their own. Each bride is so unique and her journey is her own. I think it would be impossible to pick one sorry!
Outside of your profession, tell us about yourself?
I am 41, married with 3 children and a husky. Life can be busy but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have an amazing family and circle of friends that I’m so grateful for so life is very good to me right now!
