Bella’s Baking – Vendor Spotlight

Get to know Finnuala from Bella’s Baking. All her cakes are bespoke and she features different styles from elegant, boho inspired to quirky, creative novelty cakes and fun and cheeky cupcakes for hen parties, birthdays and more. I have tried her baked delights on several occasions and I am just blown away from the flavours…. Did I mention cake tasting is my favourite part in the wedding planning ?

Tell us about Bella’s Baking?

Bella’s Baking was established in Ennis in 2018. We specialize in couture wedding cake design and unique novelty cakes.

What led you to cake design?

Recession! I couldn’t get a job in Sports Science which I’m qualified in, so I worked towards making my hobby a job! I had been making cakes for friends and family since I was about 12!

What keeps you passionate about weddings?

Seeing and hearing the happiness that a wedding cake brings to a couple and their guests! I also love meeting and working with other suppliers to make a day magical!

How long have you been in business?

I have had my own premises for nearly 3 years, but I have been a professional cake designer for 6 years.

Where do you find inspiration?

Everywhere! My dad’s garden, the sky, colours and shapes in everyday life and from other amazing cake designers in the world.

What should couples know before hiring a cake designer?

Decide on a style/s you may want. Look on Instagram, Pinterest and screenshot pictures of ones you like so we can design a cake around the style.

What sets you apart in your field?

As I am a one-woman show I find that guiding my couples from the consultation phase right through to the wedding day makes it really special for them. They can reach me directly for any queries, changes etc. I also try to make each cake unique for each couple, be it the placement of flowers to a handpainted note to the couple on the cake.

What common mistakes do you see couples making?

Trying to please their guests with the cake flavours. I remind them gently that it’s their wedding day so they should order the flavours they want!

What’s your best advice for couples planning a wedding?

Book your vendors/suppliers as soon as possible and try and organise the details so that you can enjoy the lead up to the wedding.

What’s the most memorable wedding you have ever worked on?

That’s a hard one! Either of my sister’s weddings. One was my first ever wedding cake and she was so trusting and delighted by it.. even though it wasn’t great! And the second cake travelled to London and was finished over there in a little Air BnB with limited equipment, and delivered in a taxi to the venue! Again she trusted me with it even though I was a beginner!

Outside of Bella’s Baking, tell us about yourself?

Outside of being a cake designer I enjoy exercising, surfing, SUP, and generally being by the beach! I love music, and if you walk past the bakery you’ll be sure to hear me singing my heart out! I have two gorgeous rescue dogs with my partner who keep us busy. I’m happiest when being with my family and friends….and bringing them happiness with cake!
